Regions

The Moulin in Vent à Romanèche-Thorins

Beaujolais

The Beaujolais vineyard, with its 13,000 hectares of vines, is located north of Lyon. It is characterized by numerous valleys where the soils are predominantly granite or clay-limestone. The Gamay grape is king here and offers intense fruity aromas. The appellations of Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages as well as the ten Crus offer a myriad of expressions that will perpetually renew the experience of the region’s wines.

MÂCONNAIS

It is the southernmost region of Burgundy. The breathtaking landscapes of the rocks of Vergisson and Solutré augur great wines on these clay-limestone soils. Historical cradle of the Chardonnay grape variety, the appellations of Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages… have contributed to the fame of the Mâconnais region.

Appellations

Beaujolais

The Beaujolais Protected Designation of Origin covers 3,900 ha and is mainly located in the south of the region near Villefranche, Anse and Bois-d’Oingt. This is the wine that best illustrates the simple charm of the bucolic landscapes from which it originates.

Beaujolais Blanc

Beaujolais Blanc is something wonderful, unexpected, delicious and appreciated by a growing number of connoisseurs. It develops subtle aromas of white flowers that blend harmoniously with soft citrus scents.

Beaujolais Rosé

Produced in the Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages A.O.C.s, rosés are made from Gamay grapes. Two winemaking techniques can be used: direct pressing or short maceration. The wines are generally fresh and thirst-quenching, with citrus and peach aromas.

Beaujolais Villages

With its 3,000 ha, Beaujolais-Villages A.O.C. represents 25% of total Beaujolais production. It takes its name from the 38 wine-growing villages that have long been known for the superior quality of their wines. It’s the versatile red wine par excellence to accompany aperitifs and meals.

Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau

Bourgogne Aligoté

The Aligoté grape gave its name to the Appellation Contrôlée, which covers three départements. The wines are fresh, with aromas of citrus fruit and white flowers. It forms the basis for the real Kir.

Brouilly

The Cru du Beaujolais, the most southerly and the largest. Its deep ruby color heralds intensely perfumed aromas, offering a whirlwind of fruit such as plum, strawberry, peach and redcurrant. The texture is opulent and velvety.

Chenas

Full-bodied, tannic and rich, the smallest Cru in Beaujolais, which covers 270 ha – most of the town – is not lacking in character.

Chiroubles

Chiroubles has the distinction of being the highest cru, culminating at an altitude of 450m. These highly aromatic wines are soft, balanced and pleasant, offering a nose of peony, violet and spices.

Côte de Brouilly

As its name suggests, it is produced on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, once a volcano. The 310 ha of A.O.C. produce a delicate, fruity wine with aromas of fresh grapes and iris.

Crémant de Bourgogne

A skilful blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay, Crémant de Bourgogne is vinified using the traditional method as in Champagne. However, it retains a livelier, fresher character, ideal for a successful aperitif.

Fleurie

The queen of Beaujolais. The origin of the name Fleurie has nothing to do with flowers, but with an officer of the Roman Legion. In a way, wine is Rome’s greatest gift to France. The 870 ha of A.O.C. produce a distinguished, seductive and extremely fruity wine with a touch of minerality.

Julienas

Spread over 580 ha, Juliénas is a wine to be cellared. Legend has it that the A.O.C. takes its name from the great Julius Caesar, but what is true is that it is well known as a “writers’ wine”, as it is much appreciated by many French writers and journalists. The full-bodied bouquet is both fruity and floral.

Mâcon-Villages White

The white wines known as Mâcon-Villages come from some 44 different villages north and west of Mâcon and the peaceful Saône River. The hillside slopes offer ideal exposure to the sun, as well as excellent ventilation and drainage. The bouquet suggests complex, subtle aromas of springtime white flowers, such as acacia, lily and hawthorn, as well as typical citrus notes.

Morgon

The fruit of Beaujolais, the charm of Burgundy. This is undoubtedly the most typical of the ten Beaujolais Crus, and therefore the easiest to identify at a tasting. Its distinctive terroir flavor (cherry, plum, peach) intensifies with age.

Moulin-à-Vent

The king of Beaujolais! The 660 ha are planted mainly in the commune of Romanèche-Thorins, where Les Vins Georges Duboeuf have been established since 1957. The wines are powerful and fragrant, and can age well for years.

Pouilly-Fuissé

The four villages of Pouilly-Fuissé, Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré and Vergisson produce the famous Pouilly-Fuissé wine. They have achieved the remarkable feat of selling 75% of their wine abroad. It’s the “jewel” of the Mâconnais region, and its color is an unrivaled golden hue. It offers a bouquet of roasted almonds, lime blossom and verbena, with a light touch of vanilla.

Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru

The four villages of Pouilly-Fuissé, Chaintré, Fuissé, Solutré and Vergisson produce the famous Pouilly-Fuissé wine. They have achieved the remarkable feat of selling 75% of their wine abroad. It’s the “jewel” of the Mâconnais region, and its color is an unrivaled golden hue. It offers a bouquet of roasted almonds, lime blossom and verbena, with a light touch of vanilla.

Régnié

Nestled among the hillside vines, surrounded by the sea of vines of their elders, Morgon to the north and Brouilly to the south, Régnié is well known as the youngest Cru in Beaujolais, having been born in 1988. Today it covers 400 ha and produces fragrant wines.

Saint-Amour

The most northerly Beaujolais Cru translates as “Saint of Love”. It bears the name of a very small, beautiful village in the heart of the A.O.C. This elegant, delicate wine offers aromas of peony, peach and apricot.

Saint-Véran

The birth of Saint-Véran in 1971 was a fairly logical event. It was the recognition of a wine that had always been superior to the other regions of the Mâconnais. With pronounced floral aromas dominated by lime blossom, honey and a hint of toast, this wine offers a fruity, lingering taste on the palate.

Viré Clessé

Recognized in 1998, the Viré Clessé A.O.C. includes two communes in Southern Burgundy. Its wines offer subtle aromas of apricots, honey and white flowers. The ideal accompaniment to an aperitif.
