APPELLATION
Chénas

History

Chénas is the smallest Beaujolais appellation in terms of surface area. Its name is linked to the commune’s ancient oak plantations, cleared by the Gallo-Romans and then by the monastic orders on the orders of Philip V the Long. Vines grow on rolling hillsides.

Vines have been grown at “Les Darroux” for a very long time. The Ursuline nuns of Mâcon owned a small estate here, which was sold as national property during the French Revolution.
The vines, which are around sixty years old, are cultivated using sustainable methods.

Tasting

This Chénas has a brilliant garnet-red color. This cuvée has everything going for it: gourmand, deep and unctuous, it displays all the faconde of a very ripe Gamay, without overdoing it, where the aromas of small, fresh, juicy black berries dominate. A Chénas of great charm that will do wonders with ageing, but already tastes very well.
